Hi and welcome to the 26th Stirling(Alloa) Company of the Boys’ Brigade…or the BB!

If you’re one of our members you will know all about us. If not you may not even know what the BB is. The “BB” offers a wide range of activities for school age children. Unlike some other clubs you don’t have to be the best in a particular activity or pass a trial to get in. The “BB” is simply about you taking part, having fun, making new friends and trying something new.

THREE SECTIONS

Normally we do all sorts of things across the sections, from stories and songs, indoor games and sports - to practical things like first aid, simple cooking and various crafts. Depending on section, we also have competitions, weekend and summer camps, day and evening trips and visits to things like ten-pin-bowling, megazone and the pantomime.

Alloa Ludgate Church

All Companies of The Boys’ Brigade must be part of a Christian Church. Since our formation in 1954 the 26th has been an integral part of Moncrieff U.F. Church, Drysdale Street, Alloa.

Sadly, due to a fall in congregational numbers, the Church decided to close for worship, with its last Service being on 18th June 2023.

We will always have many happy memories of Moncrieff ; not least because of the knowledge that hundreds of boys have had opportunities to enjoy the many benefits that membership of The Boys’ Brigade can bring.

We are now part of Ludgate Church of Scotland in Alloa, and look forward to continuing “ ….the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom……. “ by introducing many more boys from age 5 to young men of 18 to experience the difference that the B.B. can make to their lives.

The BB is the oldest uniformed organisation for young people in the country, and we share its Object – “The Advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among boys, and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tends towards a true Christian Manliness” Activities cover 4 main areas – Physical ; Spiritual ; Community and Educational, and in all sections boys are given opportunities to develop as they grow, so that they can experience what Jesus called “life to the full…” We do this by providing an extensive and varied programme of activities and events suitable for each of our age groups.

Where we started

The Boys’ Brigade was founded in Glasgow on 4th October 1883 by Sir William Alexander Smith. From this one Company formed in Scotland the BB has grown in to a worldwide movement having worked with millions of children and young people for well over a century.

Pioneer of Camping

Widespread organised camping for adolescents was something completely new in the late 19th century. The Founder’s introduction of camping into the programme in 1886 was an innovation and helped to sow the seeds of one of the most popular recreational pastimes still enjoyed today. From this first camp held at Tighnabruiach in 1886, thousands of members still enjoy holidays and residential activities as part of their Company programme each year.

Did you know: The Boys’ Brigade was the first voluntary uniformed youth movement in the world and many of today’s organisations for young people can trace their roots back to The Boys’ Brigade.
